Team PokerBlue Co-Captain Yosh Nakano announced today the addition of poker superstars Gank (aka Bret Jungblut), Don Zewin and Thor Hansen to an impressive Team PokerBlue line-up that will compete in the upcoming 2006 World Series of Poker.
“Only a tremendous idea can generate the tremendous response level and enthusiasm Team PokerBlue is receiving from players around the world,” notes Team PokerBlue Co-Captain Ted Forrest. “There is no doubt in my mind that Yosh Nakano, who envisioned and created Team PokerBlue, is poker’s reigning high-limit impresario.”
Team PokerBlue is the first-ever team concept to dramatically improve player odds in the $80 million 2006 WSOP, July 28-August 10. The Team PokerBlue format improves team-member odds to cash or to share in the estimated $10 million first prize, from 800-1 to 3-1 favorite … and 8,000-1 to 308-1, respectively.
Team PokerBlue will be comprised of a maximum of 26 players, each of who will own a 1% interest in each of their teammates. Therefore, if the 2006 WSOP winner is a member of Team PokerBlue, each teammate will receive at least $100K. The winner will receive $7.5 million. Each team member will also receive a piece of any to cash winnings of Team PokerBlue Co-Captains Ted Forrest and Yosh Nakano.
Starting July 6th PokerBlue will run satellites every night at 7pm (Pacific) for entry into the WSOP $10K Main Event Tournament. For only $109, players will participate in a No Limit Hold’em satellite, with PokerBlue.com guaranteeing a $12K prize pool. The winner of the tournament will win a $10K Main Event seat, $1,000 expense cash and a spot on Team PokerBlue. The remaining $1,000 is being added to the prize money. Satellites will end when all 26 slots have been filled. PokerBlue.com is holding daily qualifier No Limit Hold’em tournaments for $13+1, for entry into the $109 satellite.
Gank (pictured) was a member of “The Crew”, the notorious group of young players that threatened to take over the poker world. He has ganked players from every corner of the globe-winning more online tournaments than anyone else in the world. He is the 2004 World Champion in Omaha 8 or better and is credited with nine (9) WSOP cashes. Brett is also founder of ProPokerSchool and a columnist for Bluff Magazine.
Don Zewin has been one of the top professional high stakes poker players for over 20 years. He has numerous cashes under his belt, including the Bellagio Five Diamond Tournament win over Barry Greenstein. In the 2006 WSOP $1500 No-limit Hold’em Tournament, Don has already cashed (6th out of 2.750 players) — winning $127K.
Thor Hansen represented Norway in the 2006 Intercontinental Poker Championship, now airing on CBS. He has earned over $1.6 million in lifetime tournament cashes.
Ted Forrest is the 2006 NBC National Heads-Up Champion and the #1 tournament and cash player (and quite possibly the most feared) in the world today. Nakano is the 2006 CBS Intercontinental Poker Champion. In winning the Intercontinental (now airing on CBS through Saturday, July 22), Nakano out-gunned a field of 21 world-class players, from 21 different countries … each player representing their native country. Nakano represented Japan. Other notables included-Doyle Brunson (USA), Daniel Negreanu (Canada), Johnny Chan (China), Sam Farha (Lebanon), and Hasan Habib (Pakistan).
