Day 2A Main Event at World Series of Poker- End of Day Summary

The combined survivors of Days 1A and 1B of the World Series of Poker Main Event- 1,476 of them- returned at noon Tuesday July 7th to play Day 2A. 2004 Main Event champion Greg Raymer and actor/comedian Jason Alexander shared the felt on ESPN's feature table one today. Feature table two was occupied by Roland de Wolfe, Steven Weinstein, and Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson. All will advance to day three on Friday.Gus Hansen was an early casualty. He turned Broadway and got his last chips in with the nuts, but his opponent had flopped a set. When the board paired on the river, the Great Dane was relegated to the rail.Other former Main Event champions who played today are Amarillo Slim Preston, (1972) Berry Johnston, (1986) Johnny Chan, (1987 & 1988) Jim Bechtel, (1993) and Carlos Mortensen (2001). Slim, Berry, and Johnny were busted today. Jim and Carlos will return on Friday for Day 3.Record-holder 96-year-old Jack Ury returned to the felt today, but did not last long. He ran into kicker trouble and reported to the rail during the second level of play.Brad Garrett led the celebrity contingent today. He managed to survive until late in the day, but then made a bad read and put his chips in with the worst of it. He hit the rail after the dinner break. Rene Angelil (husband and manager of Celine Dion) also lost the last of his chips today. Poker Power couple Jennifer Tilly and Phil Laak can share their poker tales over drinks tonight as they both were eliminated.Notable pros who were eliminated today include three-time WSOP bracelet winner Barry Greenstein, who ran pocket Jacks into pocket Kings; three-time WSOP bracelet winner Mike 'the Mouth' Matusow, two-time WSOP bracelet winner Hoyt Corkins; Eli Elezra, Juha Helppi, Nikolay Evdakov, Gavin Smith, Alexander Kravchenko, Mike Gracz, Wendeen Eolis, Michael DeMichele, Lex Veldhuis, Erik Cajelais, Beth Shak, Michael Craig, Shaun Deeb, Jason Mercier, Raymond Davis, Mark Newhouse, Tony 'G' Guoga, John Hennigan, Mike Caro, and Katja Thater.Todd Brunson was also eliminated, which leaves his sister, Pam Brunson, as the last Brunson sitting.About 630 players will return for Day 3 on Friday. Among those returning are 8-time WSOP bracelet winner Erik Seidel, Jason Young, Greg 'FBT' Mueller (who has already won two bracelets this year), Andrew Black, Daniel Makowsky, Mike Sexton, Sorel Mizzi, Jimmy 'gobboboy' Fricke, two-time bracelet winner Thor Hansen, two-time bracelet winner Burt Boutin, two-time bracelet winner Tom Schneider, Vitaly Lunkin, Owen Crowe, John Myung, Joe Sebok, Julian Gardner, Barney Boatman, Isaac Baron, Sammy Farha, Farzad Rouhani, Mark Gregorich, Cirian O'Leary, Bill Edler, Ted Lawson, and Roland de Wolfe.Unofficial end of day 2A chip leader is Eric Cloutier with 384,000 chips.Day 2B begins Wednesday at noon Las Vegas time. Everyone takes Thursday off and the field will come together for the first time on Day 3, Friday, at noon.
